The trip goes to Berlin
It is so important to get off to a good start in a new class, because it is important that all students have three good years at Birkerød Gymnasium. That is why the intro trip at BG is placed immediately after the start of the study program in November, so that the new and remaining classes can quickly get to know each other really well. Here, all students are sent on a social three-day trip to Berlin with team building, academic experiences and socializing.
There are many good reasons for the trip going to Berlin. Berlin can be reached by bus and with its many green areas, we can carry out fun outdoor team building activities, which are important in connection with an intro trip. Something our intro team, who plan the trip, are specialists in. In addition, Berlin also offers a wealth of great museums and cultural experiences, so there is plenty to experience for our students.
254 1.g STX students and 18 teachers were therefore in Berlin in shifts over week 47, just as 85 1.g Pre-IB students and six teachers were in Berlin from Thursday to Saturday in week 46. The main purpose of the trip was, as mentioned, to shake the students up in their new classes, and the good atmosphere was there right from the start, when the students entered the buses on their way to Berlin, where they had fun, sang and listened to music.
Over the days, the students were divided into groups across their new study classes, so they had time to get to know different new classmates. The program included, among other things, a communal meal, a selfie treasure hunt, team building activities, an evening of fun with various competitions and an excursion day with the individual class's class leader.
The team building activities took place in the beautifully autumn-colored Kleiner Tiergarten park, which is located right above the hotel. Here, the classes competed against each other in tasks such as how to turn and present while up to 32 (!!!) students stand on top of it and hövdingeball.
The class trip with their class leaders offered many exciting experiences for the different classes. Some classes visited Berlin's answer to the Eksperimentariet, Spektrum, others made their way past the Soviet war memorial in Treptower Park, where they reflected on the history of remembrance, one class visited the Natural History Museum, while others were in the Zoo or visited the Körperwelte exhibition. All in all, some really lovely days that strengthened the unity of the new classes.
In the afternoon of the third day, the trip went back to Denmark and BG, and again the atmosphere on the bus was excellent, although some students were a little more tired than when they left BG. There is no doubt that the students have enjoyed the days in Berlin and have been shaken up extra well. As we all know, good social cohesion also creates a fertile ground for good academic collaboration, so now all that remains is to wish all 1.g students some truly wonderful years.
