Students at BG contribute to academic innovation and research.

3m and 3y, in collaboration with Danish teacher Annette Weiss Garne, have participated in testing and evaluating new teaching materials.

The academic day-to-day life at BG is a shared endeavor, where teachers actively contribute to bringing subject knowledge into play in the classroom, with students as collaborative partners. At times, such collaboration develops into a genuine academic laboratory, where students help test and evaluate new teaching materials, as is the case with the recently published Green Literary History in Danish – Ecocritical Perspectives.

Through extended courses across several STX classes, teachers have integrated the material into their teaching and translated it into concrete didactic approaches. Four different authors have contributed to the book, including one of BG’s Danish teachers Annette Weiss Garne, who, in addition to being a co-author, has also tested and refined the material together with their Danish classes, 3m and 3y, which place ecocritical perspectives on the agenda within the subject of Danish. This work has taken place in close interaction with the digital publication on Systime, where literary history is rethought with a focus on the relationship between humans, nature, and the environment. Here, Garne and the mentioned Danish classes contribute not only as users, but as active co-developers of the subject’s content and methods.

In the classroom, students have worked analytically and exploratively with topics such as views of nature, sustainability, and the role of humans in the ecological crisis. This strengthens both their academic understanding and their ability to relate literature to current societal agendas. With the publication Green Literary History, we have a clear example of how, at BG, we continuously develop our teaching in dialogue with new academic trends and contribute to shaping the teaching of the future.

Congratulations to Annette Weiss Garne and the other authors, as well as to 3m and 3y! Read more about the publication on Systime: https://groenlitteraturhistorie.systime.dk/
