Scholarly publications attest to the rigorous academic standards upheld at Birkerød Gymnasium.
BG’s teaching staff is full of educators who are passionate about and actively contribute to the development of their subjects. It is an incredible privilege to have employees who, in addition to being outstanding communicators of their subjects at the upper secondary level, also work tirelessly to ensure that academic knowledge reaches as many people as possible.
For example, just in the past few days, we’ve had the pleasure of seeing our colleagues make their mark in the public conversation:
If you love thrills and chills during this dark Halloween season, tune in to Divisionen on P1 to hear English teacher and Ph.D. in British literature, Kathrine Wonge Lohman, talk about Frankenstein’s monster in Mary Shelley’s famous novel Frankenstein.
Danish teacher Jens Kramshøj Flinker wrote a column in Berlingske titled: “Reading literature is not just a cultural luxury, but a democratic necessity,” defending literature—especially the novel—as essential for the democratic formation of young people in an increasingly polarized and digitally distracting world.
Fredda Galea, Spanish and English teacher, has just published a reference book with key phrases and exercises to train Spanish vocabulary. With this book, Fredda has provided a strong resource that compiles phrases and exercises to effectively help students reach their goals and be well-prepared for exams. In Frases Claves, Fredda combines sharp didactic communication with years of teaching experience, knowing what works in practice and the types of challenges students most often face.
These three examples add to a long list of teachers who, in recent years, have influenced the academic conversation, such as Sara Brygger, who collaborated with the publisher Systime to develop a series of Danish-language resources, and Morten Eskildsen, Michael Brix, and Karen Helmig, who in 2022 published a textbook on viruses aimed at science subjects in upper secondary school. BG’s teaching staff is made up of a diverse group of dedicated educators who proudly uphold academic standards. Each of them makes a tremendous effort to give our students the best possible foundation for their future and to create a strong, academically enriching, and socially cohesive community across subject areas and interests.
