Business Administration students at Novo Nordisk

This Tuesday, January 28, the business administration students in the 3gEØ1 team went on a company visit to Novo Nordisk's production facility in Hillerød, where there are approximately 1,200 employees.

The students got to see and experience what a production line for insulin pens looks like with an output of more than 150,000 insulin pens per day. A production that is highly automated, and where the employees' task, in addition to feeding the machines, is largely to monitor production. A production that runs 24/7, and where any production stoppage can be seen on the bottom line. For the same reason, Novo is in the process of expanding production capacity with an additional line in Hillerød.

The students also got an insight into what is emphasized when the product has gone into production. Trust in the product, its uniformity in effect and high quality are crucial for patients' trust in the product, and are ultimately crucial for Novo and the company's reputation. As our tour guide said: “Better to throw away a bad product than to send it to the market”.

Before the visit to the production plant in Hillerød, the team received an exciting presentation from Fi Gjessø, who has worked in the pharmaceutical industry for a number of years and for the last seven years for Novo. The focus here was, among other things, on the process from molecule to drug and all the stages that a drug goes through in the development of a drug towards obtaining an approved drug for production and sale. The students also gained an insight into the many career paths that are available at Novo, regardless of whether you are interested in natural sciences, social sciences or humanities.

In every way, the students and teacher gained an exciting insight into an industry and a company that is of crucial importance to many patients, and not least for Denmark, where the company contributes with jobs and not least in relation to Denmark's economic prosperity and GDP.
