BG BARBEQUE AT MANTZIUSGÅRDEN
The day after a festive graduation party and the final exams, there was a strong need for some relaxation – and that’s exactly what the restaurant, cultural venue, and concert hall Mantziusgården offered BG’s many graduates on Wednesday, June 25, the day before the big graduation ceremony.
Following a strong wish from both Mantziusgården and BG’s student well-being committee, the event "BG BARBEQUE" was brought to life. A successful gathering which, according to the venue’s cultural director Andreas Linnet Jessen, is part of a series of initiatives aimed at creating a space where BG students can hang out and engage with the cultural and local life of Birkerød.
“We think it’s important that the entire town helps create a great atmosphere for students all year round – not just during graduation season. Events like this help bring more life to the town, where people from different walks of life can come together. We want to build a cultural environment where BG students can get involved and test out their ideas.” The event came together through a collaboration between Mantziusgården and BG’s student well-being group – a partnership that reflects the local community’s desire to create strong support systems for the town’s youth and demonstrates BG’s strong connection to the local area.
“We’re very happy with our collaboration with the students, and we hope it will help spark a movement where BG students help make the town even more attractive for themselves. We’ve had great success with other projects, like the Pulse Concert, which brought in 500 students from the high school community. There’s really nothing we wouldn’t want to help organize together with the students. If they have a dream, we want to help make it a reality,” says Andreas Linnet Jessen, encouraging BG students to reach out with ideas and new initiatives. BG BARBEQUE turned into a laid-back afternoon with lounge music, burgers, and lawn games in the sun, and it was clear from those in attendance that this was exactly what the tired (and celebrated) graduates needed after a long exam period and an intense stretch of social events and celebration.
“It’s great that there’s this kind of low-key and chill vibe where you can just relax a bit,” said some of the students from 3.b, who hope that BG BARBEQUE will become a regular part of graduation traditions.
A big thank-you to Mantziusgården and BG’s student well-being committee for supporting our newly graduated students, who will once again pass through Birkerød Town on Friday, June 27, as part of their graduation truck route. There, the students will run a lap around the Maj-Pladsen, (May square), cheered on by residents and businesses who are inviting everyone to participate in festive shared celebration of Birkerød Gymnasium.
