Red Cross Gymnasium
BG is proud to be one of the first Red Cross schools in Denmark
Red Cross' annual collection
The Red Cross' national annual collection day was on the 5th of October 2025 and at Birkerød Gymnasium, this day is one that is very anticipated. Here, supporting the Red Cross is a natural part of the school and our community.
Each year, the school puts in an unwavering effort to encourage students to be collectors and opens its doors as a meeting place for the other collectors in town. The Red Cross group works hard to promote the collection both within our school and throughout Birkerød city. This is done through a very effective communication strategy, including posters that are put up around Birkerød city and at BG.
In addition to this, all BG students are kept well informed via the school’s social media, morning meetings and visits to all classes by the recruitment team. During this collection, a popular attractor for donations is the many cake sales, as well as the chance for an award of party tickets to the class with the most collectors.
Once a year, a representative from the Red Cross head office visits BG and gives a presentation to all Second-Year students. This gives the students an in-depth insight into the Red Cross' work, it shows the importance of supporting the Red Cross' continued altruistic efforts.
In 2025 Birkerød Gymnasium, HF & IB won the trophy for being the school in Denmark making the greatest effort associated to the Red Cross Walk for the 3rd time.
This is how we work with sustainability and global goals
The Red Cross and the Global Goals

Collaborative Science Day
Every year in October, a Red Cross and the World Goals day is held. Based on World Goal No. 12 Responsible consumption and production, the students develop projects within recycling and products are made from apples donated by the schools’s teachers, 2nd sorting tree from BYGMA, waste, textiles and clothes from the local Red Cross shop and discarded books.
All products are sold and bought at the school and the profit is donated to the Red Cross.
Global Goals Week
At the same time, the Stx 2.gs hold the Global Goals Week every year, where BG, in collaboration with the Red Cross and the Danish Entrepreneurship Foundation, focuses on the students' innovative and entrepreneurial skills. Based on their expertise within their fields of study, the students must develop ideas and projects that can contribute to the fulfillment of the UN's 17 Global Goals.
The Global Goals Week ends with a large fair, where all groups present their ideas to companies, researchers and politicians.
Give a Box
Prompted by our former student Jasmin Jameson initiative, BG's students collect games, toys, and other items that the children at Center Sandholm can enjoy. The project has been named "Give a Box".

BG Red Cross Club
BG Red Cross Club
BG's Red Cross club collaborates with The Sandholm Centre, it is the country's largest asylum centre.
All the donations are reviewed and sorted by the members of the Red Cross society, who divide the items into age groups. The gifts are then wrapped and ready to be given to the residents at the Centre.
BG's Red Cross society has been allowed to participate in The Sandholm Centre's Christmas market. The students go there to hand out the gift to the residents of The Sandholm Centre. The meeting with the centre’s staff and residents always makes a big impression on the students.

Voluntary work
Birkerød Red Cross Shop
BG Red Cross Club works closely with the local Red Cross shop in Birkerød Hovedgade. The store recruits volunteers to work in the store's warehouse and a group of the school's students work with the store's social media, where they post weekly pictures of selected pieces of clothing to encourage sales. Furthermore, an annual flea market is held at BG with clothes from the Red Cross store. The store also donates clothes that are then upcycled in the school's "Sustainable Fashion Club" and resold to BG's students.

Student representation
Red Cross Board
At Birkerød Gymnasium, an agreement has been made that one teacher and two to three students are represented on the Red Cross board in Birkerød, and all board meetings take place at BG. This creates a good connection between the Red Cross' activities in the local area and Birkerød Gymnasium, which has proven to be mutually beneficial both parties.
